Quilt Preparation Checklist

Thanks very much for taking the time to send a carefully prepared quilt. I promise that it is time well spent and will result in a nicer quilt, and a faster return time.

The Quilt
  • Repair loose seams
  • Remove stray threads or pet hair – I regret that I will have to return tops that are contaminated with excessive pet hair.
  • Wash if necessary
  • Press
  • Mark the head with a pin
The Backing
  • Measure carefully to insure that your backing is 4" wider on all sides than your top. For example: if your top measures 54" x 72" the batting and backing should be about 62" x 80". An inch larger or smaller is fine, but please do not send anything that deviates significantly from this measurement.
  • Remove all selvedges
  • Square all four sides
  • Press
  • Mark the head with a pin
TheBatting
  • The batting should also be 4” wider than the top on all sides
  • Square all four sides
The Shipping
  • If you are sending batting, fold the fabric around the batting to help prevent creases
  • Use a box that is large enough to accommodate your quilt without cramming. Do not use soft-sided packaging.
  • Do not write "Quilt" anywhere on the box!
An improperly prepared quilt is often difficult or even impossible to load on the quilting machine. To avoid a $25 set-up fee, please take the time to follow the check list carefully. Quilts covered in pet hair will be returned.
